Did you know that late summer and early
fall months usually have the most births?
For 1998 (the most recent information
available), the top three months were July, August and September, in
that order. Although the numbers can vary slightly year-to-year, it is
almost always summer and fall months that have the highest birthrates.
What year had the highest U.S. birthrate?
The year was 1961, and it was the height of the "Baby Boom"
when 4,268,326 little tykes were welcomed into the world.
In 1997, the life expectancy of a child
born in the United States was 76.5 years. In that same year, there were
3,880,894 live births and 2,314,245 deaths. Therefore, the natural
increase in the U.S. population that year (excluding immigration) was
1,566,649.
The U.S. birthrate has been declining
during the last decade. In 1990, there were slightly over 4 million
babies born in the U.S.
