The best laid plans.
After all your careful research and consideration, it's still a good idea to have a back- up name. A couple I know were going to name their second son Cameron, but when he arrived the name didn't seem quite right. When I called a few days later to inquire how the little tyke was doing, I learned to my surprise that he wasn't Cameron, but Matthew, which his parents said suited him perfectly.

Modern technology is a wonder, but doctors and ultrasounds are not foolproof. We've all heard the stories about expectant parents who decorated the nursery in blue and selected a boy's name because their doctor was so certain of the baby's sex. However, when their little princess arrived, it was quite a shock. It probably won't happen to you, but just in case have a complete name selected for both a boy and a girl.

Having said all of the above, remember that your child's name is ultimately your decision. Do your homework, take some time, let everyone give their opinion, talk it over and then make your choice. Don't try to make everyone happy, because that's impossible. Remember, it's one of the most important gifts you will give your child and he/she should know that it was your decision and not dictated by the wishes of others.
